Counselling Psychologist (Child Care Services)

Protsahan India Foundation is a child-centered, systems-change nonprofit working to prevent and heal Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) among adolescent girls in contexts of deep adversity. We implement direct interventions through our Girl Empowerment Centers and work to strengthen public systems through evidence-based field building and trauma-informed ecosystem design—especially across education, care, and justice sectors.

As a Counseller at Protsahan you will use your expertise in arts-based therapy, case management, and  counselling to support girls in our Girls Empowerment Centers (GECs) and survivors of violence. 

 Purpose of the Role

To provide individual and group counselling to children, primarily girls, who have experienced or are at risk of violence and abuse, using trauma-informed and creative therapeutic approaches. The role also focuses on strengthening Protsahan’s evidence-based interventions through research, and contributing to the mental health ecosystem for vulnerable children.

Key Outcomes (First 12 Months)

  1. Provide individual counselling support to 25–30 active high-risk cases, ensuring personalized, trauma-informed care plans.
  2. Design and facilitate 3–4 group counselling or arts-based sessions monthly to build resilience and peer support among at-risk children.
  3. Ideate and implement at least one research study or paper focusing on mental health interventions for vulnerable children, contributing to program enhancement and advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and provide culturally sensitive, arts-based individual counselling to children who have faced or are at risk of abuse, violence, or neglect.
  • Facilitate group sessions that promote emotional expression, coping skills, and mutual support.
  • Develop individualized care plans, monitor progress, and maintain accurate and confidential documentation.
  • Engage with caregivers and families when necessary to build a safe and supportive environment for the child’s healing and development.
  • Lead the design and implementation of a research initiative on child mental health interventions, including data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners (therapists, social workers, program specialists) to ensure holistic child protection and mental health support.
  • Participate in reflective supervision, case reviews, and team-based learning opportunities to enhance practice and ensure quality of care.
  • Contribute to training, workshops, or community events to strengthen the trauma-informed care ecosystem.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Child Psychology, or related field (mandatory).
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working with children/adolescents in vulnerable communities.
  • RCI registration preferred.
  • Training in trauma-informed care, expressive arts therapy, or child protection is a plus.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with empathy and cultural sensitivity.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • 25–30 active individual cases counselled with documented care plans and progress.
  • 3–4 group counselling / arts-based sessions conducted per month with feedback and outcomes tracked.
  • At least one research study or paper initiated and shared internally or externally to inform best practices.
  • Timely and accurate documentation of all sessions, assessments, and progress notes.
  • Meaningful engagement with families to support child well-being.
  • Active participation in reflective supervision, case reviews, and continuous learning activities.
