Hriday Dialogues 2025:
Strengthening India’s Child Protection Ecosystem
Annual Stakeholder Consultation
The Annual Stakeholder Consultation is aimed at facilitating open and constructive dialogue to strengthen India’s Child Protection Ecosystem. It is a platform that brings together a diverse array of experts from government, media, civil society, funders, and key legal and psychological institutions to spotlight best practices and pathways for open exchange that can help vulnerable children heal and thrive. We will also be joined by key members from the Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board and social workers to share our knowledge and resources generously with each other.

When Systems Listen: Connection as the First Line of Protection for Every Child

Day 1: CLOSED DOOR RESOURCE HOLDER’S CONVENING
The convening focused on engaging with representatives from Institutions, Philanthropies, civil society organisations and corporates through a Closed-Door Resource Holder’s Dialogue. The goal was to build the understanding and capacity of donors on how philanthropic resourcing can shift from isolated interventions to trauma-informed system-building at scale.

Day 2: ANNUAL STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION
Keynote address by Justice Madan Lokur expresses that the idea of “CareVerse” is terrific. He mentioned the need for a holistic approach to child welfare, treating children as whole individuals rather than a sum of separate issues like education or health. He gave a critical direction for civil society as we collectively endeavour to enable child protection at the last mile, with a nurturing psychosocial care lens across the country.

Consultation Panel 1
VOICES OF MIGRANT GIRLS
This panel will feature a conversation between Mallika Sinha, Team Member, and Protsahan Girl Champions, on how AI is increasingly becoming a space for young people to seek emotional support, with rising dependence among Gen Z. The discussion highlights both the benefits and risks of AI—from access to information to concerns around bias, privacy, and lack of human empathy. Voices from the ground reflect why human connection still matters, especially in moments of vulnerability. Our youth emphasise that Artificial Intelligence should not replace our skills but should enhance our capabilities.

Consultation Panel 2
POLICY & POSSIBILITIES: AI AND CHILD SAFEGUARDING: WHO PROTECTS CHILDREN WHEN ALGORITHMS DECIDE?
This panel will bring together leaders from law, media, and child rights to examine two core themes. First, the role of India’s emerging AI and data protection (DPDP) frameworks in proactively preventing harm to children, and the training required at the frontline for child protection in this new world. Second, a vision for a trauma-informed AI ecosystem for India’s most vulnerable children—across justice, education, health, and care systems.

Consultation Panel 3
LEADING WHERE IT HURTS: FAILURES, FEEDBACK LOOPS & STAYING THE COURSE IN CHILD PROTECTION
This session invites experienced practitioners to reflect openly on missteps, blind spots, and difficult learnings from the field (operational, systemic, strategic, relational), and how those lessons strengthened their practice, their organisations, and the ecosystem, especially in recent times when child protection organisations are going through some of the toughest internal challenges.

Masterclass:
A DECADE OF JJ REFORM: LESSONS FROM THE FRONTLINES OF CHILD PROTECTION LAW
This legal masterclass will shed light on and critically examine the intersection of policy ambition and administrative constraints to strengthen systems so that the law is not only written, but lived. It will delineate where our systems stand after a decade of JJ Reform, and how the gaps in training, resources, and institutional culture often pull practice away from the law’s spirit.

Arts Based Therapy Masterclass:
THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE: UNDERSTANDING PSYCHOSOCIAL NARRATIVES IN ECOSYSTEM BUILDING
This masterclass will bring together neuroscience, psychology, and social work practice to explore the womb as the first environment of human experience. It will situate trauma-informed care within the context of prenatal and intergenerational trauma and use case reflections from Protsahan’s field experiences to help participants understand the neurobiological pathways through which chronic stress, violence, and emotional neglect during pregnancy shape the architecture of the developing foetal brain.

SISTERHOOD IN SYSTEMS CHANGE: SCALING TRAUMA INFORMED CARE ACROSS INDIA
This session will foreground civil society actors who are intentionally weaving collaboration and care into the very design of their child protection programmes. It will highlight how NGO-NGO collaborations have long powered the child protection space, and continue to offer some of the most enduring pathways for scaling deep, strengthening frontline caregivers, and slowly building the foundations of a genuinely trauma-informed child protection ecosystem for India’s children.
